Note of support from US Senator Harry Reid - NV (Sept 11, 2008)

Mr. Kenneth Linder

Henderson, Nevada 89002
Dear Mr. Linder:
Thank you for contacting me regarding domestic violence. It is good to hear from you.
I was pleased to learn of your efforts to increase awareness of domestic violence in the great state of Nevada and around the country. I have long supported efforts to recognize, prevent, and combat violent crimes committed against women, and I am always seeking to improve federal laws and programs regarding this issue. With as many as one in four women experiencing violence from a partner, and one in six women becoming victims of sexual assault, it is clear that this is a pressing matter that affects numerous families each year.
That is why, in 1990, I was a cosponsor of the original Violence Against Women Act, and I supported passage of the bill when it became law in 1994. This program provides vital resources for victims of domestic violence, including education, social services, and law enforcement policies that create a comprehensive plan to address this devastating issue. I assure you that I remain committed to making Nevada a better, safer place to live, and providing individuals with the necessary resources to acknowledge, avoid, and overcome domestic violence.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. For more information about my work for Nevada, my role in the United States Senate Leadership, or to subscribe to regular e-mail updates on the issues that interest you, please visit my Web site at reid.senate.gov. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
My best wishes to you.
Sincerely,
HARRY REID
United States Senator
