The Cause

Originally I had planned this ride as a simple (can any cross country ride be simple?) ride from here to there to get out of the desert and see some sights. A pleasure ride, if you will. But a few things happened...
Leaving work on my bike, I witness a man in anger, grab a woman's arm as they walk down the sidewalk. I rev my engine and simply stare at him from behind my tinted face guard. He noticed and stopped.
Standing in line for a buffett meal at a casino I see a young couple with a baby. He is verbaly and emotionaly abusing her right here, in the open! Her face is red and tired and depressed. I stand there in my leathers and stare him down. He left. She looks up at me and we exchange smiles. I know. She knows.
Then there is my friend, a social services investigator. I hear horrible story after horrible story. They make me sick. I can only imagine how they affect her.
There was this undercurrent in my being. I needed to do something; anything. And then the two thoughts merged; the thought of a motorcycle trip and helping a great cause like the NCADV. And so, I scheduled this ride to coincide with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
If I help one woman, man or child to find help or get out of a violent or abusive relationship, my ride will be a success.
Ride safe, all.
